12 of 12 (v6.0) - March

Late again, but I was away in Devon seeing my Mum and Dad for the weekend, and then busy the rest of the week - a Magnum photographer gave a lecture on his career, then there were celebration drinks for someone who passed the CFA level 1 (big deal apparently in finance, tough work), and drinks for someone who swapped from one job to another...

Anyway, these are all from Devon - a mix of being out in Paignton and Teignmouth, and my Mum and Dad's house. The two Trade Winds photos (the curry and crumble) are normal iPhone photos, the others are all Hipstamatic on iPhone (with the details).

You can see everyone's 12 of 12s here, and thanks to Chad for creating it all.

1) Paignton beach, Devon

The pier at Paignton - been going there for holiday since I was little, and then we moved to Devon when I was 16. So we'd then go to the usual holiday spots at the weekends!

2) Trade Winds restaurant, Teignmouth, Devon

Photobucket

Dad's birthday's the 13th, so we went for an early birthday meal. I had the chicken curry, which was huge! (and also came with a plate of chips).

3) Trade Winds restaurant, Teignmouth, Devon

Photobucket

Yummy apple crumble for pudding! Not the traditional lots of crumble topping, but more like just scattered over baked apple. Very nice!

4) Teignmouth, Devon

Photobucket

Mum and I checked a nearby charity shop while Dad ran an errand - lots of books in the PDSA charity shop (the PDSA provides veterinary treatment for animals belonging to people on low-incomes). I don't think I got any books there this time.

5) Teignmouth, Devon

Some interesting wind thing outside a cafe - it'd twirl round every time the wind blew. Think I got an odd look from some people sitting outside the cafe, when I took the photo.

Daffodils that Mum bought while we went food shopping.

Book I was reading - one that Mum lent me. I was trying to finish it before I went back to London.

Funny story - I was speed reading towards the end, and knew I'd not finish before we had to leave for my train. So I took photos of the unread pages (there were about 18 or so). I managed to read a few more in the car on the way to the station, but was still about 8 pages short. I actually went into a Waterstone's in London to read the last few pages! (I would feel bad, but I had recently bought quite a few books from them, and I've no idea where I'd get a copy of this book otherwise, as I'm not a member of any local library and don't know where my nearest is).

Recent acquisitions - I'd ordered the NCIS s2 and the Annals of Imperial Rome (by Tacitus) from Amazon, but I wasn't sure where was best to have them shipped to - at my flat they might sit in the conservatory until I got back, ditto for if they went to work. So I had them shipped to Devon and figured it they arrived before me or while I was there, great - if not, I'd collect them next visit. Luckily they came while I was there, so we watched a few episodes.

The Jo Nesbo book was one I had been in the middle of before stopping to read Major Pettigrew's Last Stand, and the 31 Bond Street and Spies of the Balkans are ones I picked up at the supermarket when we went food shopping.

Yummy chocolates Mum and Dad brought back from Belgium (which they cross through going to Austria I think).

Mum and Dad have a Wii Fit, which is what made me want to get one after Christmas. So Mum and I exercised a bit together - she showed me how good she is at hula hooping, and I showed her how to do a few like the boxing and rhythm parade. Because I registered as a guest, it only gave me the basic balance test at first, so told me my age was 21 (I'm actually 29). It gave Mum the usual 2 tests - agility and mental - and told her 20! (she's 58). She'd managed to get down to 21 before, but this was a new low for her, and she beat me! (though it judged her on 2 tests, e.g. prediction and memory), and only one for me).

Mum doing the rhythm kung fu. My Mii is second from the left, and Dad's Mii is second from the right.

I hate the walking test, as it's hard to walk naturally on the spot. By some bizarre thing, I got 100% on it this time, so took a photo to prove it.

Watching Tomorrow Never Dies, with Mum and Dad. Pierce Brosnan getting a shower in a street with Michelle Yeoh.

And that's your lot for this time! I took my dSLR home, but never took a photo with it - must get back using it... See you next month!

Hi Helen,

My turn to be late : )
(just did March & still owe 11 for Feb) Love the pier, it has the kind of angle I find myself looking for a lot. And it's nice to have you 'on my playing field' with the iPhone.

Oh how I love South Devon. My Grandparents were from Brixham. That was very nostalgic for me seeing your 1st picture of the pier.

I love the styes and colours. You make everything look so delicious-real cook book foods!

And good on your Mum having a Wii fit. Ours gathers the dust somewhat, but we have a doglet now to exercise!

So glad you got down to see your folks and your Dad had a nice birthday!

Hugs xx
