12 of 12 (v5.0) - July

Another month, another 12... and this month's is on time! I went back to taking the day off, though I didn't end up doing anything wildly exciting. I left the flat around noon, and was back by about 5pm! In my defence, I'd intended to sit in Regents Park for a while and read, but it started lightly raining so that put the kibbosh on that plan...

Anyhoo - thanks as always to Chad for coming up with the idea, and see here for the master list of all participants! Here are my 12 (*coughishcough*)...

1) 12:01pm - Lewisham, London

Photobucket

A cat that lives on my road - most of the others are shy and skitter away, but not this handsome fellow. Who I've called Ginger. Yes, my creativity staggers even me sometimes.

2) 12:57pm - Southbank, London

Photobucket

The London Eye with a nice sky behind it. But look carefully at the middle pod... or lack of! They've obviously still not replaced it - I was walking over the bridge a few weeks ago when a lady behind me noticed it was missing and pointed it out to her friends.

3) 12:58pm - Southbank, London

Photobucket

And a cool shot of the London Eye that I liked. Elegant in its simplicity, says I.

4) 1:03pm - Southbank, London

Photobucket

Udderbelly, at Southbank. Run by one of the national TV channels (Channel 4), it has food and drink in there and things like comedy acts. And yes, it is a giant purple cow on its back.

It's London, what do you mean you're surprised?!

(Yes, I know the website says Underbelly, but read the text on the page and they call it Udderbelly).

5) 1:30pm - Southbank, London

Photobucket

A fountain further along, next to Queen Elizabeth Hall I think. People having fun running in and out of it. I had fun getting photos of the water against the sky.

6) 1:35pm - Southbank, London

Photobucket

There were 3 panels of comic-style painting on the wall of a nearby building, I think by a Brazilian artist who is featured at the Udderbelly. This amused me.

7) 1:55pm - National Theatre, Southbank, London

Photobucket

The reason I'd come to the Southbank - the Press Photographer's Year exhibition. I hadn't realised it only opened today. Reuters represents! I spotted 3 photographs from Reuters folk, I think!

8) 2:01pm - National Theatre, Southbank, London

Photobucket

Outside the National Theatre, and again, quirky London. Giant sofa, armchairs and tall lamp, all covered with fake grass (like that stuff you see at greengrocers'). Of course!

And because I tweaked the contrast on a b&w one, here's a second shot of the sofa:

Photobucket

9) 2:27pm - Waterloo station, London

Photobucket

Was feeling hot and humid by then, so got a lovely mango chiller from Krispy Kreme.

10) 2:42pm - Bakerloo line, London Underground, London

Photobucket

Getting the Tube to Regents Park.

11) 4:41pm - Lewisham, London

Photobucket

Walking up my road.

12) 5:02pm - My flat, Lewisham, London

Photobucket

Leftover chicken, broccoli and egg noodles in black bean sauce, while I watch some of the end episodes of Heroes s3.

BONUS - 3:58pm - Canary Wharf Tube station

Photobucket

Recreating this shot, one of my alltime favourite 12 of 12 photos I've done. I actually got this in b&w again, but it was so similar to the original (just less people) that I went for the colour option this time.

Thanks for reading, and comments always appreciated! See you next month, same date, same batchannel.

Love them, and your day. Gosh-for a day off you did absolutely heaps!
The water droplets are beautiful and I must check out that sofa some time in Waterloo.
They're all great- the escalator would be so cool in B&W or sepia maybe?

Would you believe for a Londoner I've never been on the Eye!

Roll on August's 12 now!

Hello
Nice photos of London.

Thanks for your comment on my blog.
You ask for the throwing china picture in my post. It's a wedding custom in germany at the bachelor party. The breaking of stoneware and porcelain wishes the couple all the best for the marriage. And it makes fun.

Have a nice day

What a sweet cat! I love the big "grass"-covered furniture! You always go to the neatest places!

Looks like you got the most out of the afternoon out anyway! Rained all day here so no 12 of 12 again for me. Don't think inside our house with the chickenpox crew would've been terribly excting!

Lovely pics of the London Eye (is there another that justifies the 'London' part of the title?), Ginger cat and the B&W sofa. You were lucky to get away with a pic of the tube without getting told off by some nutty security dudes.

Quirky London looks good! x

Thank you for your very kind comment on my 12 Helen, my ego was very nicely stroked this month by my favourite people :)

Gorgeous photos as always but Sally particularly loved the imaginatively named Ginger photo particularly.
That must also be the cleanest tube station in all of London, must check that out next time we're up in the big smoke.

Hey Helen, loving your 12 of 12 as usual. I really like the first one with the cat and also the water droplets from the fountain and last but not least the tube station. I really think it would be better in B&W but either way it's a great shot. Thanks as always for sharing i always know I will like your shots, not that I don't like the other people's shots, it's just that I know you will never fail in the department of good photos. Take care and we' will see you next month. Sorry for the long post

GREAT photos, once again. Love the kitty cat, love the ferris wheel and the water splashes. Your pic of the chicken and noodles made me hungry, lol! The tube pic reminded me of when I visited London way back..sigh. Thanks for sharing!

I absolutely love your 12 this month. Such beautiful blue skies! It was a gorgeous day there, huh? I need to come back to London someday to ride the Eye. It wasn't there last time I visited......quite some time ago, obviously. The water drops are killer. Can't wait to see what you come up with next month.

Great photos again! Nice to see you have Krispy Kreme over there; I'm a sucker for the dounut holes, though the regular glazed donuts are always great, too. And the Tube looks quite comfortable compared to our MetroRail cars here in DC.

One of these 12s, I'd LOVE to take a day (or two) off and come follow you around town. Your photos are always SO amazing.
The kitty on the street...
The "Eye"...
The fountain...
The sofa...
The food!

Love them all. Thanks for sharing, as always.

Great photos, as always! I love the pics of the London Eye (Gem, I think there are a couple dotted around the country now - I'm sure there was one in Newcastle a while back). Regarding the missing pod, are you sure it's the same pod that was missing a few weeks ago? I think they're renovating/replacing all of the pods, one by one, in time for the Olympics. Even so, it could still be the same one. I imagine it'd take a bit of time to take one of those things down, renovate it and replace it again.

And I need a ginger cat.
