If you go down to the woods today, you're sure of a big surprise...
OK, no teddy bears' picnics, but as I didn't go to see the London Marathon on Sunday (hadn't felt well Saturday night), I still wanted to enjoy the sunny good weather in the afternoon. So I walked over 2 miles to the Hampstead woods (on the edge of Hampstead Heath), took some photos and enjoyed reading on a grassy knoll. Then walked back ;-)
Looking up into the tree canopy:
Backlit ferns:
Backlit leaves:

I've still taken some photos since I stopped posting, mainly over last weekend - I'd had a week to try and settle into the new house a bit more. I still have a way to go, and things to sort out with the new house and people, but I'm a bit more settled. And after feeling a little narked about some stuff tonight, looking over and posting photos actually helped remove some narkedness.

nicely done. i especially like the photo looking up through the canopy..i've tried capturing similar scene but none with the sharpness, contrast, and deep blue sky you managed...great captures.
These are really pretty! Love the leaves against the bright, blue sky in the first one. The focus on the single fern in the second is nice and I like that the light isn't shining on all of it. In the third, I love how you can see the shadows of the other leaves in the ones that are brightly lit.
Very well done! Also, I'm glad you're settling in! *hug*
ROTFL, Helen. I googled "narkedness" cuz I don't really know what that means and this very blog post was the 5th hit!!!
Anyway, that first picture is absolutely amazing. I want to be there right now!
That first one is AMAZING. I can't believe how perfectly positioned the trees look up against the sky like that! Such lovely blue and a gradient of greens.
Loving the lighting on the second one! Sorry you missed the marathon, but I'm liking these much more than people dressed weirdly for charity! x
Oh and I checked what Allison said out of curiosity and she's right! x
Very nice shots. I like the perspective in the first and how the tree lines draw you into the image.
In the second I like how the like highlights and separates the fern form the background.
And getting a good backlit leaf shot is non-trivial. Well done.
Helen,
The backlit fern and the tree canopy are both wonderfully composed and lit! I so much enjoy your photography.
picturs of leaves attract me so I'll leave a comment ;-)
