203 - Bookworm

Theme 211.

Photobucket

This shows my unread books. I've acquired them over quite a while - I worked in the University bookshop briefly one year, during which time I had staff discount. I've gathered books at charity shops for ages. And for at least a year to 18 months, I've been doing BookMooch, which is a book swap programme (where you list books you want to get rid of, people request them, you pay to post them to the moocher which earns you points. You then spend the points mooching books from other people). Plus, my local WH Smith's had a few stands of factory damaged books, a couple of summers ago - a slight crease on the cover or a tear, maybe the wrong cover printed on it, etc. But they were 99p or £1.99 instead of the full price of £6.99 or whatever! I could easily come out sometimes with 10 or so books, for a quarter of the price! Then, it stopped - but a while back I saw the shop had started doing that again, it's a good way for them tog et rid of stock that's not quite good enough to sell full price. These ones now usually don't look damaged (though I have seen one where the title was raised up and the colour hadn't quite lined up with the raised words), and are more likely to be the £1.99 price now (and hardbacks £3.99). It's always been a good way for me to try books I might not otherwise have tried, if they were full price.

I am *trying* to read more books than I acquire... getting rid of ones I am unlikely to reread, where possible. However, if I spot a book that I know will be hard to get on BookMooch, I grab it.

(The London guide and the Cary Grant book on the bottom shelf (left) are read, and the stripey thing on the bottom shelf (right) is a diary)

I have books everywhere in my place (2nd floor condo). Whenever my mom visits she says it's gonna collapse under all the weight!

Oh, a fellow bookaholic!! I suspect there is many of us here. I find it difficult to resist books. A rainy Sunday and Amazon are normally a pretty lethal combination (lethal to my bank account - lol). Also have recently taken to browsing round Oxfam shops - which is where I donate most of my paperbacks to.

Firstly, I like to point out that that's a nice little secret spot for a diary - I would have never guess that was what it was!

Second, I totally wish I could find a place like that to get cheap books! >_<

I love to read, although I aways have trouble rereading something because I remember everything - but I never sell them or donate them because well, I have trouble doing that as well. (I'm kinda stingy when it comes to my books, ok a lot stingy) I'm so bad that I'm tempted to go out and buy all new books of the ones my bunny destroyed! (He's such a bad bunny!)

I wish I had a collection like yours, but I'm not quite there yet.. My dad on the other hand could probably open a little mini bookstore! ;)
