Theme 172.
This is one theme I've been putting off for a long time, waiting for the "perfect" black and white photo. And after taking this the other night (and the one below), I realised it was a shame not to use them. I realised I don't think there IS a perfect photo, one that is better than all the other black and whites. They might all be excellent in their own way. So I'll stop waiting, and post this - I can always post others either for other themes or just a duplicate.
I'd stayed late at work which meant it was nearly 8pm by the time I got home (takes ages to commute home). As it had been raining and I thought I might get a cool spray photo of a car driving by, or just photograph the light, I grabbed my camera and went out. This is the road leading up behind my street - I took some in my street of the sun and the clouds with the sun rays, and then thought it'd be cool to get one on the road behind us, and see if I could get a car going past too.
And I did! This is the road without anything on it, and I really like how the pavement and road texture turned out, how they almost look like a pencil drawing.
(and just so you can see what the colour looks like - I shot the black and whites as black and white, no conversion in Elements - here's the colour one:)

Beautiful.
Hi Helen, me again. Thought you might like to know, September's Practical Photography magazine has a big feature (19 pages) on B&W - have had a quick read through and looks good. I subscribe and received my issue today, not sure if it is in the shops yet but will be very soon if it isn't.
This is a beautiful shot, in b/w and in color, since there isn't really that much color in it anyway. I think it doesn't get much better for black and white so I'm glad you decided to post the pictures. :)
Great shot and especially for black and white...
