161 - Monument

Theme 282.

Photobucket

A monument just down from Horseguards' Parade in London. I was heading to the nearby Tube station, and happened to see this, so I stopped to clear a few photos off my memory card which was full, and it was spitting with rain.

Here's a photo of the whole thing, bar the guy on the right hand side (couldn't fit him in):

Edit - they are poppies at the base of the monument. This photo was taken at the end of my April trip to London, but certain monuments like this and the ones at Horseguards Parade down the road, often have poppies and wreaths on them all year round. Like the monuments they cover, they show respect all year round, rather than just on one day (though I don't think it would be practical to wear poppies on our clothes year round - but monuments are fixed, whereas clothes have wear and tear and get changed).

I really like this monument. And the pictures are great because you stood right where the guys in the monument were looking at, so it seems like they're really looking you (and everyone who looks at the pictures). =)

I agree with Christin, you managed to get a great eye-level perspective. Are those poppies at the base? We don't see those here until Remembrance day...

I'm glad you stopped by my blog! I've meant to come by your blog and tell you that soon (actually, it seems more like "eventually") I'll be moving to your neck of the woods! I don't actually know where your neck of the woods is, but I'll be in the same country! Not til Jan. 2010 though.
Loving all of your pictures! Fun photo project!

I saw this photo yesterday and have been thinking about it since - I think it is as Christin says, the guys look as if they are looking at you, which makes this shot so powerful. Sign of an excellent photo I think.
