Theme 168.
Taken at the Columbarium (link to the Wikipedia general explanation of what one is) in the Cimetière Père Lachaise, in the 20th arrondissement, Paris this last weekend. There is the big squarish building with various notables like Maria Callas inside, and then a u-shaped covered section outside it (not touching - maybe 100m from the sides of the building). The u-shaped part has arches all along it, and on the walls are little cubby boxes where I think people's ashes and personal effects can be left, with a plaque over the front. It's made of two levels, with stairs leading up to a platform where you can view the higher placed people.
I adjusted the contrast a smidgen in the above photo as the lighting was a bit washed out.
This is what the "inside" holds ("inside" because it's got the wall where the cubbys are, a roof and then the arches - otherwise it's exposed) - no adjustments on these apart from the one indicated below -

Helen, I love this series! Really nice photos and everything ties together to help 'see' the whole building. That must be a fascinating place...
Yes, I agree with Julie. I feel like I have actually experienced this place, after seeing your images. Well done, Helen!
This is a wonderful series. I love the building and everything that surrounds it. I could spend hours there... :lovely: If only I could go back to Paris soon. *sigh*
great series and arches. I love ther perspective.
Wow! This is amazing. I feel like I've really been there too -- great series, like the others have said! I would love to see this whenever I manage to get to Paris.
All your Paris pictures are fantastic and I'm so glad they fit themes so well!
This is a beautiful series of pictures. You've captured all of it wonderfully! I especially like the first and third ones!
