128 - Grafitti

Theme 312.

A special triple photo post, as well grafitti is such a rich source of photos! And this is grafitti Jim, but not as we know it - not for a gang or through vandalism. It is by people who are leaving messages in memory of a Princess.

Photobucket

Full of short messages, such as "Diana pour toujours" ("Diana forever").

Photobucket

A slightly barer patch, as it is the upright bit of the parapet, not the flat top (as in the first and third photos) - but slightly longer messages.

Photobucket

The writer or this white message has written quite a long piece! As you can see, there's an arrow pointing up to the next section (to the right)

These are all messages to Princess Diana, who was killed in a car crash in Paris back in 1997. They are grafittied onto the top of the parapet over the tunnel entrance (in which her car crashed). There is now a flame memorial there, and people grafitti their messages onto the parapet - periodically it appears the authorities clean them off (according to my guide book).

Wow, fascinating bit of history. Thanks for posting that. I don't think I've ever seen pictures of this 'shrine' before.

I've seen the tunnel and the graffitis. They really overwhelm you. You really captured the gloomy feeling of the place, yet it seems all very personal and heartfelt. Good pictures.

That's really touching. I didn't know about it, and it's nice that the authorities allow people to do this. Thanks for sharing. Wonderful photos.

this is neat to see. We don't see this over here in the states that people still have such respect for an awesome lady.
