Theme 33.
Taken yesterday, in the forest which my village borders. I'd gotten the bus home after shopping in the city, and stopped to talk to two former colleagues (I'd seen the ISU van as I waited for the bus into the city, and as luck would have it, they were driving past when I got off the bus to walk home as well, so we stopped to catch up).
Then, I made my walk home - and as I reached one of the entrances into the forest, I went in on a whim. I think I just wanted to stand on the small bridge just inside it. There's something that appeals about the sensation of standing on wood when you know there's only a river or stream below it. I just watched the very slight trickle of water as it ran, and watched the ripples as insects skimmed along the surface.
I took several photos of the stream and the reflections on it, as well as some of the trees and plants nearby. This is one of the ferns on the edge of the stream - I liked the colour version too, but the composition was better in the black and white (less overlapping). I did darken the contrast in Photoshop, to achieve more of a film look (digital never seems to get the richness of the black and white that I've see with film - I could have maybe changed the exposure wheel on my camera, but it's hard to see how dark something is accurately on the viewfinder (due to the backlighting) and also when in daylight (even slightly less harsh due to being in the forest)).

Lovely! I'm going to try to drop in every day.
Beautiful! Talk about capturing the moment.
Great idea for this theme and good choice of presentation with the B&W. Very nice as always Helen.
What really frustrates me is when you can't see a thing on the LCD screen - which is frequently. Makes me crazy!
Gorgeous! Do you ever try black and white conversions on your computer, instead of shooting in B&W? You can get really interesting effects, and then you always have the option of color if you want it. I have a few tips from my photography class, so let me know if you're interested.
