100 - Running

Theme 213.

For the big 100 post, here's a big set of photos - as in they're of elite runners in the London Marathon. These guys posted some seriously fast times!

Oh yes - and it was raining for these ones - I was sitting on the stone block that held a bench, with my umbrella wedged up against the bench's back (because the bench faced the Thames and I was facing the road), the umbrella handle between my knees, and I was hunkered under the umbrella with my camera!

Photobucket

Berhane Adere (Ethiopia), who I think came 7th in the women's (nearly finished top 3) - 2:27:42.

And the men - on the left, is Samuel Wanjiru (Kenya), who came second (2:05:24), and on the right, is Martin Lel (also Kenya) who came first (and set a new world record - 2:05:15).

And editing in two more of the elite women -

Photobucket

Constantina Dita of Romania (finished 8th, in 2:27:45)

Not quite such a sharp one of Souad Ait Salem (Algeria), who finished 6th in 2:27:41.

This was challenging to photograph, the marathon - the rain, the overcast lighting, the fact that you'd have to zoom in or out and frame a person, focus on them, and then in the time it took to lock a focus point on them, they'd have obviously moved forwards. I quickly worked out that the sports setting was my friend. All the same, when the elite runners started coming through, it got the adrenaline pumping, as I'd only have one chance to photograph them (whereas the en masse public would give me lots of chances to photograph Joe Public).

Nice action shots. I really like the one of the Ethiopian woman, you can really see her struggle. The rain is also captured very nicely.
