Theme 257.
Around November time, I saw on a photoblog I read, a Mum post about the little brother she'd lost to leukemia, and then about how when her little girl wanted her hair cut, she told her about the uncle she never met, and would she like to donate her long hair to Locks Of Love? They take donated hair, and make wigs for kids who've lost their hair through illness and chemotherapy. I only know this woman in passing, and she's not the first vague acquaintance I know online to have mentioned Locks Of Love, but this time hit me for some reason.
I then tried measuring my hair, and estimated it was about 10 inches from the very top of my neck, to the bottom of my hair. I made an appointment for January, hoping it would have grown enough to give the 10 inches they require, and still leave me with a neck/tip of shoulder length cut I can still do something with, should I want to.
This is the cut in progress - the girl said she'd always wanted to cut someone's ponytail off! The hair got posted off this morning.
Locks Of Love - clicky!
Edit - just thought I should clarify, it was someone else who took the photo - I didn't take a tripod into the hairdressers or anything! But this was a big charity thing for me, and I couldn't exactly take the photo myself. I did do a selfportrait one as she cut, but that didn't show the event as well as the side view. For another version of this theme, taken by me, here's my photo:

Very cool!! :) I did Locks of Love once ~ my hair's too short now. But I felt good about doing it.
That's a very generous thing to do, Helen, well done
Hi Helen
Well done you. Hope you like your new haircut in the process. I had never heard of the charity, but have now. Lovely idea and you look like you have beautiful hair, so what you have donated will be well received.
Oh, very nice, Helen! My d-i-l is growing hers out to do the same thing. I think it's a great "charity." And your hair is lovely.
When did your hair get so long? I've just measured and, technically, I could do this too. I don't think either my husband or son would forgive me for going quite that short though (it would be nape of the neck length at the moment). Maybe by the time I get round to getting an appointment (given that I've been meaning to do it since October) I'll have enough. It is a worthwhile thing to support.
What a wonderful thing to do. I'm so proud of you. Grammom
Very cool idea! Only wish I'd heard of it before I lopped off all my hair a few years back.
Love the new haircut too, it really suits you :-)

Great idea for the charity theme. My daughter donated her beautiful hair to Locks of Love when she was 6-years-old.
What a beautiful picture of your lock of hair. Great cause. My daughter has been talking about doing this as well. I simply don't want it short. :(
Well done Helen! Lovely photo too and works very well in b&w.
A very compassionate and generous gift to have given Helen. Love how you told the story with your images.
If you have seen my blog you will know that I am folically challenged but I must comend you on taking the time to do this thing that means so much.
Cheers to you

No limes wanted here and thanks for sticking up for me and my lack of a decent camera!
I think I could do better on that cloud picture as Hibe suggested, just not with my camera.

You didn't post the finished product, but I did see it over as WS and let me say, your hair looks fabulous! So not only did you do something selfless, you look fantastic to boot!
Very cool. I had to take before and after pictures before I did mine a few years ago... it just feels like such a huge thing. It's such a great way to give to charity, too.
Congratulations! What a great cause. I did this once when I was in high school, and it's so great to know that you're helping someone. Way to go!
What a wonderful thing to do. :lovely: :smooch:
That was just such a great thing to do. I might consider it, but it would take too long to grow that long and who wants grey hair anyway? ...lol
